Journey into Darkness

When all the lights were off, silence arrived, and I was intimidated. I felt the darkness was about to engulf me in eternal obscurity. The only sound I could hear from the silence was water dropping into the firm granite rocks. In the heart of a cave, where the dark is so absolute that blinking makes no difference, I experienced profound introspection. This very cave sheltered many during the Jeju 4.3 incident. Understanding their hardships – from the biting cold to wildlife threats – and juxtaposing them with my present comforts evoked profound gratitude.
